With November rolling around we look forward to a number of things: Thanksgiving, Guy Fawkes Night, and Black Friday sales. Unfortunately, the unexpected twists and turns 2020 has taken will alter all of these holidays we look forward to. As much as we love the excitement of Black Friday sales, and taking advantage of shopping our favorite fashion trends at a cheaper price, we need to face reality: this year will be different.
So how do we ensure our safety and take advantage of the November sales? Well, I do have some good news. According to The Telegraph, we are expected to see some of the biggest discounts in history this year and many retailers plan on beginning sales early. But, with a pandemic, and now tier-three lockdown, the idea of in-person shopping becomes increasingly unappealing.
This is why I highly recommend browsing online sales as opposed to those that are in person. I’m sure with lockdown we have all become familiar with online shopping and spending our money on things that are a little bit questionable… But the big question is how can we shop safely and sustainably this November?
As I mentioned before, the busy atmosphere of Black Friday shopping will not be as present this year with COVID restrictions, and many retailers extension of their sales over a course of a week. This takes away the stress of Black Friday, you won’t have to worry about making the most of the sales in such a short time. With a simple “Black Friday” google search you will notice many big brands like TopShop and Mango are preparing for their sales, but when we bring up the idea of shopping sustainably it might not be best to give our money to these companies that tend to be unethical. Instead, we may want to focus on vintage and sustainable clothing brands.

Vintage clothing companies such as Beyond Retro Vintage Clothing are hosting online sales. Beyond Retro Vintage Clothing sells vintage clothing online for both men and women, and not only are they having a sale up to 70 percent off but they also give students a discount. They have an extremely wide selection of clothing in which you can shop by brand, era, and style. In terms of sustainability, they upcycle vintage clothing and aim to reclaim ten billion items. They are an eco-friendly business recycling all packaging and using sustainable transportation of items. I highly recommend checking out their website and learning more about this company! (They also have a ton of vintage Christmas sweaters available right now).

If you are looking for the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to something nice and take advantage of November sales the consignment store TheRealReal is also hosting an online sale. You can find second-hand designer purses and clothing on this website.
This Black Friday they are having up to a 75 percent discount on a select range of items. You also receive 25-pound in-store credit when signing up. I purchased my favorite bag second-hand from TheRealReal and it came in great condition and with an authenticity card so I can attest to their reliability.
It is no surprise that November sales will be different this year, but it does not mean you don’t have to participate. Whether you’re browsing online sales or going to stores in person to buy gifts for the Holidays and maybe treat yourself to something nice I encourage you all to make the most of it and stay safe.
