St Andrews is leading the way in climate activism and science awareness with the launch of the new Scottish Alliance for Geoscience, Environment and Society (SAGES) Climate Science Podcast.

The podcast, funded by the Scottish Government’s Climate Engagement Fund, aims to inform and engage listeners on a wide range of environmental issues through 11 episodes focused on topics such as blue carbon, peatlands and environmental justice.

In Episode 3, Dr TJ Young will be unpacking the cryosphere, episode 10 will see Dr Mary Abed Al Ahad highlighting environmental injustice as a result of climate change and episode 11 features Professor Bill Austin talking from Svalbard about polar diversity and blue carbon dynamics.

The series is overseen by Professor Matteo Spagnalo, who hopes that the podcast will boost community engagement and underline Scotland’s commitment to a more sustainable future. He is supported in this role by Alasdair Allan, the Acting Minister for Climate Action.

Allan outlined the importance of projects like SAGES: ‘Public support for climate action is crucial if Scotland is to achieve net zero by 2045 and become more climate resilient.'

The podcast will be available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, YouTube or at this link.
