The Women's 3s currently play in the Scottish tier 3B as their main league during the season. Their first match was against the Dundee women’s 2’s on the 8th of October, which they won 13-1 in a very commanding victory. On this Wednesday, the University of St Andrews women's 3s took on the Aberdeen 1’s in the She Can She Will Cup.
Coming into this match, the St Andrews women's 3s were the underdogs as the Aberdeen 1s currently sit at the top of the women's Scottish Tier 2 and had not conceded a goal nor lost a match. The St Andrews women were in good form but knew this match would be a tough test.
On Wednesday, they showed that they wanted it more as they went through 90 minutes of grueling football and ended with a 2-1 win. A goal by midfielder Kate Cunningham in the first half lifted the team's spirits and gave them the hope to fight on. Once another player, Alex Tenny, scored the second goal to clinch the lead, they defended like their lives depended on it. Cecilia Jackson was the core part of that defense; her strong and emphatic performance in the match earned her the player of the match.
First-Year Left back for the team, Reeve Recor spoke on the team's reaction and Jackson’s performance. “We were all so proud of each other's work rate and overall performance. Cece was really the backbone of our defense on Wednesday.” The team now progresses through in the She Can She Will Cup and prepares for their next match against the Stirling women’s 3’s. They have the chance to come away with a win and continue their good form this season.
