Students experienced a night of dancing, drinking and electronic/techno beats. The DJs mixed popular songs to a techno beat, leaving everyone in the mixer bouncing. The event took place at the Vic, which had a spooky photo booth and was filled with decorations that contributed to the atmosphere. Opening at 11pm and finishing at 3am, a multitude of students attended throughout the night.

Students fashioned costumes of all sorts. Among the well-known costumes were cowboys, cats, skeletons and supermen. But, the event wasn't just filled with the commonly seen costumes - more elevated ideas were sported, such as an elaborate showgirl costume. It seemed like a lot of people got the message - something about a Halloween event at the Vic is different to one at the Union. Costumes need to be more intricate, especially when considered that VS was a collaborator. The vibes were high and the mixing was perfect for a night of dancing.

Although the event was great, one setback was the Club 601 event just across the road. The Vic wasn't as busy as it usually is for a Wednesday, and this boils down to the fact the Union receives a much higher attendance for events. It's a shame when considering the Vic had good DJs (arguably better than the Union), a great venue and an altogether different vibe.

It was still a great time for everyone involved. The strobe lights and the heavy beats contributed to the buzzing atmosphere, highlighting the importance of independent venues and DJs in creating an exciting event.

St Andrews is known for having a dull nightlife, but I disagree. Despite there being a lack of clubs, it's events like this that make the small town turn into a hub of partying and dancing at night. Students don't seek out these events enough; freshers assume Club 601 is the place to go, but are left sorely disappointed when they realise it's not what they expected. Freshers week had a few good events, but the majority of nights, the same music was played. Speaking from experience, the only good events I attended at 601 were ones where other societies/brands collaborated and had sets there, namely, Latin Flow.

The decline of the Vic as a result of the Union showed. At around 1:30am, which should've been peak time, I noticed a lack of students. If the Union wasn't just across from the venue, I believe there would've been double the numbers. Furthermore, I heard a lot of people talking about Halloween Night and it was sold out, but some that I spoke to ended up spending the night at Club 601 instead. With lots of freshers’ purchase of the Union pass, it means they can get a club night for free rather than paying for alternative events at the Vic. This makes me wonder: Should the Vic introduce a semester-long pass? The introduction of a pass could help students save money, and might mean attendance would be higher for the venue - it’s a win-win situation. Nonetheless, it was a fantastic night and attested to the altogether different, elevated vibe the Vic emanates.
