It’s loud and crowded. Music is bumping in the background as people shout their drink orders to the bartenders. People bask in the purple-tinted light, dancing their troubles away. The Vic is buzzing with life as DON’T WALK once again throws a can’t-miss event.
On Tuesday night, DW: The Abyss of the Birds took over The Vic. The sold-out event brought students out of their week 4 study haze to let loose. Upon entering The Vic, I was met with a rush of people moving between The Vic’s two event spaces, the main room and the social club. One of my favorite things that The Vic offers its guests is variety; The Vic’s main bar gives an open, hyped feel, while the social club provides a more intimate setting that’s less intense, and its outdoor space is vast and comfortable, allowing attendees to choose what atmosphere they want and switch between them when they want.

DON’T WALK’s events rarely disappoint, and The Abyss of the Birds followed that trend. Energy was high in The Vic, and this was the perfect follow-up event to DON’T WEAR x Spoiled Life to keep people interested in and excited for all that DON’T WALK has in store. In fact, two of the DJ’s from DON’T WEAR x Spoiled Life performed once again at The Abyss of the Birds. The music was loud but not overbearing, allowing just enough for dancing but not too much to prevent conversation. DON’T WALK even added the playlist of the night to their Facebook page.
While at some points the music did dull the mood and did not match the energy of the event as a whole, it was always redeemed with a better song or mix to liven up the space once again. While the main bar was full of dancing and drinking, the social club seemed calmer and more relaxed while maintaining the overall lighthearted buzz of the evening. The outdoor space was a great place to get away from the massive crowd inside and grab a bit of fresh air and check-in with friends before rushing back inside.

Upon reflection after leaving DW | The Abyss of the Birds well after 1 AM, I was thoroughly pleased with the night. The Vic’s excellent drinks (and bartenders–don’t forget to thank them!) and event spaces coupled with DON’T WALK’s inexplicable ability to create a great atmosphere made the night one to remember.
