In honor of it officially being autumn, and the end of New York Fashion Week (NYFW), it’s time to stay on the lookout for upcoming autumn and winter trends. This particular article will explain how NYFW has predicted and influenced certain styles for autumn and winter that may be of interest to St Andrews students.
The first trend on the agenda is… pinstripes! Pinstripes were seen all throughout NYFW. Whether it's a blazer, flared pants, or even a blouse, pinstripes add the perfect touch to any outfit. The color combinations most commonly seen are navy or gray and white. Pinstripe pants can be paired with a chunky sweater or blouse, while a pinstripe blazer could be paired with jeans and a simple top. Either way, you can't go wrong with pinstripes!

The second trend to note is the use of the color red– especially cherry red! This color was seen a lot in NYFW and, while it may appear to be more of a summer color, it’s actually perfect for autumn. If you're intimidated by this bold color, throwing in a red accessory, although subtle, can add originality to any outfit. Not to mention, cherry red is the perfect pop of color to add during the gloomier days of autumn. In my personal opinion, red can be perfectly paired with the color black or navy, but again you really can't go wrong with it.

NYFW also saw a ton of trench coats. Trench coats are perfect for the colder weather that we have here in Scotland, and add such a chic vibe to any outfit. Even a simple pair of jeans and a sweater can look more elegant with the addition of a trench coat. The colors most popular for autumn would be plain black, navy, grey, or beige. Trench coats have definitely been trending in St Andrews as of late, so if you want to hop on the band wagon, you can find them at H&M, White Company, Osteria, or Phase Eight.

The last, but certainly not least, NYFW trend of note was a frequent use of fur. Fur is both a glamorous and warm addition to any kind of autumnal or winter outfit. It's perfect to wear for a more casual cosy pub night, where you might find yourself standing outside catching up with friends, but is also elegant enough to go with a ball gown. The most popular colors from NYFW were either brown or black, but don’t be afraid to experiment!

While these are not all of the amazing autumn and winter trends from NYFW 2025, these are just some of my favorites that I think are perfect for students at St Andrews. Additionally, a lot of these items can be found in many stores throughout town such as H&M, charity shops, The White Company, Spoiled Life, and so many more. So if you have the autumn shopping bug, don’t be afraid to peruse the three streets and amp up your closet with these NYFW trends.
